COLLABORATORS
Ahead of the Fourth Annual Black Art Gala, The Foundation announces our third artist collaboration. The Bag features an artist from beyond the Bay for the first time - this time, partnering with New York-based artist, Bakar Wilson.
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Bakar received his B.A. in English from Vanderbilt University and his M.A. in Creative Writing from The City College of New York. Wilson has received fellowships from Cave Canem, the Community of Writers, and Colgate Writers’ Conference. He’s performed his work at the Bowery Poetry Club, Poetry Project, The Studio Museum of Harlem, The Asian American Writer’s Workshop, and the Langston Hughes House, among others. His poetry has appeared in The Vanderbilt Review, The Lumberyard Radio Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, Flicker and Spark: A Contemporary Queer Anthology, and The Ostrich Review, among others. His debut collection of poetry titled, Daddy Show was just published by Get Fresh Books. He is an Adjunct Lecturer of English and Creative Writing at Borough of Manhattan Community College at CUNY.
The collaboration culminates in a live poetry reading featuring pieces from the newest project in January. The event is free. RSVP and reserve your spot. This collaboration is made possible by Jug and Bottle Department.
